The Institute of Telecommunications and Cybersecurity

The Institute of Telecommunications and Cybersecurity is a unit of the Faculty of Computer Science, Electronics and Telecommunications. It conducts scientific, research, and educational activities in the areas of modern telecommunication networks, ICT systems, and cybersecurity.

Since 2026, the Institute has operated under its current name, which reflects the direction of its long-term development. The name change formally acknowledges the competencies developed at the intersection of telecommunications and cybersecurity and highlights the importance of digital infrastructure security, data protection, and system resilience to contemporary threats. Within the Institute’s activities, the development of modern communication technologies is inherently linked with digital security.

The roots of the telecommunications community at AGH date back to the 1950s. A major milestone in its development was the establishment of the Department of Telecommunications in 1986, which over the years built a strong position as one of the leading centers for education and research in this field. In 2021, the unit was transformed into the Institute of Telecommunications, and its continued development led to the creation of the Institute of Telecommunications and Cybersecurity.

The Institute’s activities focus on next-generation networks, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, programmable networks, wireless communications, artificial intelligence, and modern data processing and transmission technologies. The Institute’s staff participate in national and international research projects, collaborate with industry, and actively contribute to the development of the European Research Area.

The Institute is equipped with modern laboratory infrastructure, including 5G networks, cybersecurity, programmable computer networks, Internet of Things, and optical networks laboratories. This research infrastructure supports advanced scientific work and the implementation of projects in collaboration with industrial partners.

The educational process combines solid theoretical foundations with practical applications of modern technologies and close cooperation with industry.

An important aspect of the Institute’s activity is also supporting student engagement and the development of practical skills through student scientific societies, participation in research projects, and collaboration with companies and institutions in the high-tech sector.

The Institute of Telecommunications and Cybersecurity develops technologies and competencies addressing contemporary challenges of the digital world, combining scientific research, modern education, and industry collaboration.
